Granite is an old gold mining town. during WW ll the War Production Board deemed gold mining non-essential and wanted gold miners to mine 'essential' metals instead. Granite's economy collapsed. The population in 1940 was 86 in 1960 only TWO. In 1990 it grew to 10 and in 2000 there were 24 residents and has grown to 38 residents in 2010. In 1870 448 people called it home.
