  • Make sure you refuel before leaving the Latrobe Valley. Moe, Morwell and Traralgon all have the major brands, most with 95 and 98.

  • Morwell

  • turn right down Latrobe Road. This route will take you away from the Freeway.

  • enjoy the magnificence of the Brown Coal mine on your left.

  • this is where the fun begins. The road is generally pretty good but can be a little narrow in sections, and regularly has 4WD and log trucks on it. Also be careful for fallen rocks in sections.

  • Licola

  • Be careful crossing the bridge to get into Licola. The deck is wooden and can have some gaps in it. You can head off to the right and follow the Tamboritha road until the Third Wellington Bridge crossing - from there the road becomes dirt and is know to be quite rough. If taking the Tamboritha Road, be careful for campers doing their thing, livestock can also appear at times and deer are known along this road.

  • Time for a rest. Stop at the shop and check out the old photo board - there are some hair raising log truck and school bus photos on the board. Also check out the visitors rest hut across from the shop - some great flood and fire photos.
