Kirrawee
Start point BP servo cnr Oak road and Princes Hwy TIP "Last Fuel" on hwy before the "Royal" There are better servos for bikes/meeting points - this one has a small area for parking NOT VERY GOOD for a lot of bikes - better meeting point options include BP at Engadine and Caltex at Heathcote but these do not give you fuel or access before the "Royal" turn off at Loftus.

locally know as "tynans corner" due to the large car dealer ship - CAUTION - off camber on exit, fuel spills are common place - a real shocker in the wet - traffic entering from right is not adequately controlled when merging and often cuts across lanes.

RED LIGHT CAMERA - section of hwy to the royal turn off is heavily policed.

LEFT TURN - turn off to "the royal" - stay on hwy for fuel at Engadine or Heathcote. Can re-join the trip at bottom of Waterfall hill.
Toll booth
Stay in far left by-pass lane to skip traffic queues. Inform ranger that you are "passing through" if you do not intend to stop and you wont have to pay park use fee.
The real royal run starts here - it is a must do but has a mix of road surface and can be heavily policed. It is a true drive / ride road and someone usually bins it most w/ends - be safe and ride smart.

CAUTION - last hairpin and causeway combo - compound bend and traffic entering road from parking areas.
Audley
Audley - is within park boundary and so need park use ticket to stop here, good sized carpark for a meeting place - GETS PACKED in summer and public hols etc.
start of good up hill run - no legal OT space
Warumbal Road intersection
CAUTION - hairpin bend can catch you - road surface is fair - short legal OT space on straight run just after exit of bend but limited visibility at the end of it.

NOTE - there are limited legal OT spaces form here to Bundeena turn off - dont be tempted to push it.
"TWIN BRIDGES"
start of run into "twin bridges" - a series of corners that have caught man y a rider - surface is generally good as was resurfaced in 08/09 mix of traffic and compound bends, blind exits etc make this a true fun section to get right - if you get this with no traffic you are blessed - there is NO legal OT space between here and Bundeena turn off so DONT push it
compound bend
more of the same
and again - having fun yet :-)
"twin bridges"
watch for cars exiting the parking area on left after last of the bends - again no legal OT space between here and Bundeena turn off .....so if you get traffic best to pull over and wait

Start of a series of "twisty bits" all the way to Bundeena turnoff - road surface is generally good to excellent for the locality.
1st bend tightens on exit and leaves no room for error most are more open.
Bundeena and Watamolla turnoffs
CAUTION - this is the region of many accidents. Vehicles exiting Bundeena and Watamolla roads have limited visibility - you can work out the rest, DONT be tempted to overtake a vehicle turning off the main road

Section from Bundeena to Garie turnoff is open and scenic. Road surface is rubbish - at legal speed it can be considered CRAP at best. MOST of the royal is posted at 80kph so that gives you some idea of the surface quality of this section. Nothing to catch you in the way of corners. A few parking areas along the way so watch for traffic / hikers and pushies etc.
Garie turn off
the run to Garie is a good filler if only doing the northern part of the royal. You will need a ticket if stopping. Garie has some of the best surf in Sydney. One of the Royals more popular surf beaches.

This section is posted at 60kph - it was re-tared in may of 09. In 08/09 all legal OT space was removed. On my last run the tar was fresh with NO lines (except for the odd blackie) so cant comment now but dont think the RTA will be removing the double white lines. There have been several accidents in this area most of which were classified as "single vehicle accidents" so take care - This is truly a riders road and it gets busy - its short about a 5min run with a mix of open and compound bends, blind exits over crests etc - I'm not listing them all so be warned, ride to the conditions remember its 60kph for a reason. Enjoy :-)

Compound bends into end of Lady Carrington Drive. Watch for cars exiting parking lot. "Flip flop" after LC drive can get you
Southern End Lady Carrington Drive
Watch for traffic at car park - start of the "flip flop" the recommended speed limit is pretty good - DONT be tempted to "double and add 10". The "flop" is off camber and easy to get it wrong - there is NO room for error. Rock face and armco are the run off options
the flip
the flop
McKell ave intersection
exit to Mckell ave on right,(bottom of Waterfall hill). Parking area (on Right) - good catch up spot. the run up Waterfall hill is very good.
Traffic exiting McKell Ave has limited visibility so be careful.
The Royal south of Waterfall is some of the best roads and "atmosphere" for a w/end run but absolute rubbish surface. Patching of potholes is poor. Tar is mix of race track quality and uncompressed patching. Some resurfacing in 08 but there are areas that have MOSS growing on the road - honestly RTA fix this section. LIMITED legal OT space.

the last run out of the royal - good quality tar a small "flip flop" at the very end with bumpy surface - watch for traffic at the parking lots. Views down the coast are fantastic.
Southern end of "coast walking track"
CAUTION - car park on left watch for vehicles reversing onto roadway or slowing for views.
OTFORD PIE SHOP

CAUTION - this corner is a tight hairpin. 25 kph advisory speed sign is not a bad suggestion.
"Bald hill"
Bald Hill - hot dog van - coffee - idiots jumping off cliff in fancy bits of cloth attached to alloy frame ... and they say motorbikes are dangerous. This is the place everyone stops - its rude not to!
Turnoff to Stanwell park and Coast road
this intersection can be tricky. Traffic coming up the hill has right-of-way, but they often dont realise this
Helensburgh - Turn off
Watch for traffic. Fuel available in Helensburgh.
Helensburgh - Roundabout
options - KSA and then TL onto the Southern fwy.... OR ... TL (at roundabout) and follow the old road. Both will take you to Bulli Tops and the next turn off. I hate express ways so TL it is :-) FUEL - fuel is available in Helensburgh TR and follow the signs.

Old princes hwy - there is a school zone, two golf courses and a model plane flying area between here and Bulli tops - traffic load is mixed and most take the express way but you will get some. Road surface is very good. Police presence is mixed.

Sublime point turn off
TL here to access the lookout - excellent views of the coast
intersection with Southern fwy
80 kph zone - watch for Mr plod, loves to park over the crest just inside the 80 zone.
Bulli Tops / Appin Road turn off
Stay right and look for the Appin road turn off. There is no need to follow the silly route planner
WHAT THE !!!!
this section of map is RETARDED ... you do not need to head south and loop back to get onto APPIN road. Stay right at Bulli tops and follow the signs to Appin
Appin road.
Stay on Appin road all the way to Appin.
Good surface but very high traffic. Coal trucks etc. Moderate Mr Plod conditions.
There are two main coal mine entrances as well as a dam and a state rec area so traffic entering and exiting can vary.
Appin
TL onto Wilton Road - mix of semi rural areas and some industry. Middle section has bridge with weight restriction so limited heavy vehicle traffic
Start of the descent into the "twisties"
nice switch back
bridge with weight limit watch for oncoming traffic
up hill switch back - this bit can be tricky.
Wilton
Entering Wilton residential area.
intersection with Picton road
TR onto Picton Road - this is a direct run into Picton, road surface is good traffic volume can be heavy.
Maldon
Section from Maldon to Picton gets a bit iffy, its generally good but some corners are "unexpected" if you get complacent.
PICTON
TL and head towards "George the 4th"
George the 4th
Congrats!! you've made it ... Have a beer! The options for short rides from Picton are endless. TR onto Barkers Lodge Road and head up to the Oaks etc and a nice loop back via Cawdor / Razor back Mountain. Or Head South via Tahmoor and Bargo and come back via Hill top and Buxton / Thirlmere.
