Starting from Burnie, Tasmania - ferry to Melburne, swing past Adelaide - all normal stuff until past Port Pirie - scene really opens up after Port Augusta, admiring the endless endlessness and beauty of outback, now I understand why they built so many windfarms along side the A1 - always blowing a gale - at 44 - 47 degrees it almost feels like riding through the valley of death. After Port Augusta there's nothing - until Pimba Roadhouse, on to Woomera - where all of 30 minutes are needed to visit the Australian Space Rocket & Bomb display, on to Roxby Downs / Olympic Dam. Return 30 days later, but this time turn right after Adelaide and head to Mt. Gambier, Portland, Warnambool, Coolac and back to the ferry. GOR is a bit overrated, and authorities REALLY love to give you an unpleasant day - we leave that to the 100's of tourist buses, caravans and old age pensioners. Great ride.
