St. Augustine-16 & US1
As good a starting point as any
The Woods
Scenery turns to agricultural land
Tocoi
Beautiful trip along the St. Johns River. Slow down and enjoy the moss-covered canopy and great views.
Riverdale
Great park on the riverbank. Picnic tables, very shady.
Hastings
Bull's Chips can be bought from the "factory" just outside of Hastings. They are great handmade kettle-cooked chips only available in this area.
East Palatka
If you want to get a great seafood snack on the river, go tward Palatka and stop at Gator Landing restaurant. Huge outdoor deck and tiki bar out back on the river. Great food and very biker friendly.
The Boonies
More lovely farmland
Korona
Time for a break at one of the best biker bars in North Florida - The White Eagle. Very popular spot for start/finish of organized rides and is a big Bike Week/Biketoberfest destination. On the weekends, there is usually live music and BBQ.
Bulow Creek
Near Flagler Beach
Slow down. This is some seriously beautiful Florida marshland. Nice twisty road (not a speed road) with a great finish right on the oceanfront
Flagler Beach
Great little beachfront town. Biker friendly Finnegan's at the SR100/A1A intersection, good seafood joints within a few blocks of the city pier. For massive prime rib, Martin's is about a mile or so South of the 100/A1A intersection.
Washington Oaks
On the Intracoastal side, there is a fantastic park with beautiful gardens and nature trails. On the ocean side, there is a unique Florida beach - one with coquina boulders. The only one I know of. Can't swim here, but a great place to climb around the rocks and watch the ocean.
Marineland
SLOW DOWN! 35mph and they mean it! This was the 1st US aquatic theme park and still has great exhibits.
Ft. Matanzas
This is the "back door" fort protecting the Fort Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine. Site of a slaughter of over 250 French Hugenots by the Spanish in 1565. Free boat ride to the (very small) fort and good visitor center. There are often reencatment activities going on, check with nps.org. The beach side is a great place for sunning and swimming.
St. Augustine
Oh, so much to do here. Lighthouse to the East (you can climb up to the top, weather permitting), Alligator Farm to the West. Also, a great restaurant nearby on A1A, Gypsy Cab Co. Consistently voted as one of St. Augustine's best. Very casual, funky and fantastic food.
I'll leave downtown to the hundreds of travel guides here. ...
I'll leave downtown to the hundreds of travel guides here. I'll highlight the A1A brewery for those of us who like handcrafted ales with a fantastic view and The Tradewinds who those want a more "biker" experience with Southern Rock, pleny of Jack and lots of Bud.
Can't leave out the fort!
