Lienz, Ost-Tirol
Heiligenblut
Commence the famous Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, pay toll.
Franz-Josefshöhe
Take the detour, not to bother if the weather is bad.
Hochtor
Enjoy the view. All the way downhill from here.
Bruck
Loads of interesting options to the East and North, but lets stick to the plan and head West.
Mittersill
Hook a left South towards the Felbertauern.
Tauer
Fast sweepers on this leg.
Matrei
Worth a stop, coffee or whatever
Huben
Either continue to Liezen to complete the lap of the Grossglockner or, if you still feel strong, hook a right into the Defereggen.
Hopfgarten
STOP immediately at the TownLimits and buy excellent honey at Schneider's. The beehives are right behind the house and the bees roam in the forest up the hill. Local produce does not come more local than that.
St Jakob
Erlsbach
up the Stallersattel. Requires a bit of planning. The pass is a one way from the top, open from Austria South into Italy from the full hour till quarter past and the other way from Antholz in Italy north up into Austria from the half hour till quarter to.
Border
If you've missed your timing, stop for a coffee and the view. the shack next to the road will do. The lodge at the lake not worth the walk in biking gear.
Lake Antholz
Restaurant by the lake a good spot to have a coffe or lunch, specially the terrace in good weather. Mind the timing if you are heading back. Bit further on the Biathlon Stadium is worth a cursory look. Site of the annual world cup.
